Rules Of Success From Some Of The World’s Most Successful People

March 11, 2018 Kirsti Rivett

We’re all about positivity, supporting personal progression and celebrating wins, no matter how big or small. Success to us means an active body, clear mind, focused direction and positive attitude about life. For that reason, we want to share with you our favourite ‘rules for success’ from some of the most inspirational people in the world. Because sometimes you just need a little inspiration! And who better to learn from than those who have built their success from the ground up in their specific fields around the world.

Successful girl

Failure is an option - Elon Musk

This South African born innovator, had success going for him from the very start, selling his first computer game at the age of 12. It’s clear that this man was born to be successful and no one and nothing would stop his path. Musk believes that, “Failure is an option here. If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough.” It’s no wonder he has made such a success of himself with such an authentic way of looking at failure. Many dwell on failure, and allow it to consume them, when in fact, failure is just another way of saying ‘try again, or try differently’. Failure is a huge part of the journey to success, and every human is bound to fail at something at some point, so why not own it as a stepping stone to success?

Work hard and have fun with your work - Richard Branson

This billion-dollar businessman dropped out of school at the age of 16. While dropping out of school might not have been the smartest move, Branson clearly lives his life as proof that attitude and hard work can get you anywhere.

Our favourite success philosophy from Branson is to work hard but always have fun with your work. “Have fun, work hard and money will come. Don't waste time – grab your chances. Have a positive outlook on life. When it's not fun, move on,” he says. In other words, put in all the work it takes to get there and have as much fun as possible while doing it. The Virgin brand lives and breathes this mentality, and it shows! Something else that Branson's fun attitude shows is his happiness and love for life. "True success should be measured by how happy you are," says Branson. And you can truly see how successful and happy this man is, never mind how much fun he has while he's at it.

Be inquisitive - Albert Einstein

One quality many successful people have, is the talent to always be curious in their work. Whether it is creatively solving a problem or continuously learning and upping skills, being curious will take you places. "I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious," Einstein says. His curious mind set him apart and allowed him to become completely absorbed in his work and solve problems with passion. Be curious by seeking new experiences, inspiration and ideas from everywhere you can. That means attending as many functions, events, talks and 'doing' as many things as possible. The best places to find inspiration is in the places and moments that intrigue you. And when you do find them, you'll meet opportunity half way.

Treat everyone as equals - JK Rowling

Good character has everything to do with success. And what we’ve learnt from Richard Branson shows that attitude and character can take you far. But what JK Rowling says is that good character means treating every one as equal. “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” Treating someone that is in a position lower than you with care and kindness is one of the greatest leadership qualities of all time. Almost everyone works with people in their day-to-day lives, and if you want success, chances are it will come to you if you’re nice to the people you work with, and those people will naturally love you and support you in every way.

Team Work

Think highly of yourself - Oprah Winfrey

Your thoughts can either fuel you, or destroy you. Oprah knows this. Success starts in your mind by believing you can, so that you can set everything up in order to make it happen and put in the work. Oprah says, “Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.” Hearing this, it's very clear to see how Oprah Winfrey envisioned her life. From having come from a news agency telling her she will never be successful, to now being worth $2,7 billion.

So if success is your destination, make sure you become what you believe. That means getting rid of a lot of negative thoughts you might have about failure, yourself or limiting beliefs. If you can believe it, you can achieve it.

Own and rock your faults - Jamie Oliver

Today, almost everyone has heard this famous chef’s name, let alone cooked millions of his meals. But Jamie Oliver didn’t have it easy growing up. He had dyslexia and was put in the special needs class at school. He said it didn’t bother him but it did have an effect on his self esteem. Today, Jamie is proud to have dyslexia and he credits it to helping him build his personal brand which is now estimated at around £240 million. Dyslexia has allowed him to see problems differently and obsess about things in a different way, he told the Radio Times. “Being dyslexic or having special needs is not an excuse or reason for you not to prosper,” Oliver says. “There are different types of intelligence and everyone has their ability to be brilliant.” So you heard it, there’s no excuse not to be great!
